Theater director Anne Maike Mertens is co-artistic director and founder of Nineties, a multi-shaped theater company that creates performances fusing different disciplines. Her work focuses on imagining alternative worlds, seeking ambiguity and new ways of looking at the complex “now”. This results in engaged performances with unconventional theatrical forms that often showcase on site specific locations. She is a creator with a penchant for unusual collaborations, and is always looking for places just off the beaten path of the theater landscape. She combines the love of creating a “gesamtkunstwerk” with her commitment to depict stories that encourage to ask questions.
