With over 10 years of experience in immersive learning, Carl Boel blends research with field expertise.

He works at Vives University of Applied Sciences as a senior researcher on educational technology, focusing on fostering AI and XR literacy of students and teachers. Carl is also a lecturer on educational technology at Ghent University, where he obtained his PhD on VR in education in 2023. Carl was the main author Belgium’s national XR plan. Together with Jelle Demanet, he wrote a book on the promise of VR across different disciplines.

Since 2017 he works as an independent XR consultant (Virtual Learning is Reality), and has designed, developed, and tested multiple XR learning experiences for companies, organizations, and governmental institutions.

Finally, he continues to expand his XR network as co-chair of XR Valley, content curator for Immersive Tech Week and as a member of the Immersive Learning Research Network.
