Mavi Sanchez-Vives, MD, PhD in Neurosciences is ICREA Research Professor at the IDIBAPS (Institute of Biomedical Research August Pi i Sunyer) in Barcelona where she is the head of the Systems Neuroscience group. She is co-Director of the EVENT Lab (Experimental Virtual Environments in Neuroscience and Technology) at the University of Barcelona. She has authored over 150 peered-reviewed scientific articles and supervised 25 PhDs, leading advances on cortical dynamics and embodiment in virtual reality. Her interests and expertise are brain properties and dynamics, neurotechnology as well as the use of virtual reality in neuroscience research and medical applications. Currently she coordinates the EU project “VR per Genere” that uses virtual reality to reduce violent behaviour and she leads a science work package in the Human Brain Project. She is one of the founders of Virtual Bodyworks Inc.
