Sandra Ponzanesi is Chair and Professor of Media, Gender and Postcolonial Studies at the Department of Media and Culture Studies, Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She is PI of the NWO funded Project VREM “Virtual Reality as Empathy Machine: Media, Migration and the Humanitarian Predicament.” She is founder and director of the Postcolonial Studies Initiative (PCI). She has published widely in the field of postcolonial critique and transnational feminist studies, cinema, digital media and migration. Among her publications are Paradoxes of Postcolonial Culture (Suny, 2004), The Postcolonial Cultural Industry (Palgrave, 2014), Gender, Globalisation and Violence (Routledge, 2014) and Postcolonial Publics (Venice University Press, 2023).
