At Immersive Tech Week, we believe the way we host an event matters just as much as what happens inside it. ITW 2026 is our most sustainable edition yet – and we’re committed to making every future edition better.

ITW holds the A Greener Future certification and is currently working towards the Duurzaam Gastvrij certification as part of our Creative Europe sustainability commitment.

Our approach covers six areas:

Travel
We encourage all attendees and speakers to travel by train. Rotterdam Centraal is a 10-minute walk from the Katoenhuis. We survey how our community travels and use that data to improve each year.

Food & drink
Our catering is predominantly plant-based. The menu is built around vegetables, grains, and legumes – with some egg and dairy. There is no meat or fish. Leftover food is donated to a local food bank or shelter at the end of each day. We use reusable cups, crockery, and cutlery throughout – no single-use plastics.

Waste
We separate waste streams on-site, including food waste. Our goal is less than 250g of residual waste per person per day, working toward zero residual waste by 2030.

Energy
The Katoenhuis runs on green electricity. We use LED lighting throughout and no generators.

Water
Free water refill points are across the venue. Bring your own bottle.

Community
Rotterdam Inclusief documents ITW through photography and video. We donate leftover food to local shelters. Our programme includes dedicated sessions on the social and environmental impact of immersive technology.
