The family, as a social structure, is often the first place where political and societal tensions become visible. Differences of opinion, contradictions, social conventions, and personal bonds are negotiated and questioned here. The VR installation “At the table” uses the family meal as a moment of negotiating roles and social norms. Based on 15 interviews with Berlin residents who represent diverse ideas of family relationships and various family constellations, dramaturgs Hanna Ley and Clemens Bechtel developed five fictional scenes on themes such as the generation gap and loss. Tischgemeinschaft was produced as part of the program “Family Matters” at the Humboldt Forum.
