Exodus Project

12-15 Minutes VR with 6 DOF

Drifting above a devastated and abandoned city, the viewer glides into a stream of refugees: hundreds of people, carrying luggage, traversing the desert in cars, trucks, and on foot. It reveals the strong will to survive and the perseverance, but also makes the alienation, the uprooting, and the loneliness palpable.

War is a major theme in the stories Hotel Modern explores for Exodus; they drew inspiration from the recollections of refugees. While developing, Exodus became a cinematic VR installation. Each scene immerses the participant in the harsh realities of displacement and survival. Through 3D scanning, using a VIVE tracker and Custom tracking, an adaptive VR World was created, based on the imagery and scenography of Hotel Modern Theatre Company.
